Houston Deco: Houston's Modernistic Architecture
3256-3272 Westheimer Road
unaltered
Completed: 1948
Architect: Raymond H. Brogniez

The aluminum-faced canopy, pylon and glass block tie this shopping center to modernistic design, but the extensive use of brick clearly marks this as a transitional building. It stands in sharp contrast to the traditional Art Moderne lines of the River Oaks Community Center expansion, which was completed the same year as the Lamar-River Oaks Center and created by the same architect and developer.
